is a sequence number of sets/collections of artefacts within each Section.

n3n3

is a sequential instance number of each item within a set.

aaaa is a 3 or 4 character alphanumeric code describing the subject of the item; this part of the Index code is optional. Three-character codes are padded out with a space if the following date is not null.
yyyy is the first year of the creation of the item; this part of the Index code is optional.
